ABOVE AND BELOW:
A storm above the lake.

The hexagram of Limitation holds a special message for the world. Its symbol is that of dangerous water (abyss) above and of the lake (joy) below. The lake can only hold so much water! This represents a time when lakes are flooding and dangerous water threatens what is usually enjoyable.
This comes so close to the salt water being used on top of the normal water to cool the nuclear reactors in Japan. Dangerous waters overflowing!
Caution about what goes into the mouth and what comes out of it is mentioned. How appropriate for Japan where both water and food are contaminated and people are living out in the cold with little shelter and no food. Limitation indeed!
There are also warnings about inappropriate behaviour as questions about the value or truth in the information about vulnerabilities arise.

In the Arab world danger has also arisen in the form of popular uprisings. Danger has surged up and is threatening to run out of control, beyond acceptable limits. The balance of world power has shifted upon dangerous grounds filled with discontent and agreement.
In a time of limitation, one comes to be wary of who is limiting who, or what is limiting what.

There is a strong need for discrimination rather than impulse. Fools rush in is the motto of Aries. Wise men don’t!

On a personal level the message is to curb our indulgences and indiscriminate activities. This is a time when worries and negative thoughts seem to overwhelm our ability to rest content. In China there is something known as Smiling Meditation which aims at removing doubts and negative thoughts. At the same time, when a tsunami is coming, one needs to run and move out of the way.
How to avoid conflicts and the empowering of rage or prejudice?
Discontent and envy are terrible states of being. They lead to darkness and danger. The spiritual challenge here is to maintain inner contentment and calm and to avoid increasing the danger and darkness. Oh where is compassion when it is so needed?
Even amidst the dangers, waves of information on the web and social media, encourage dangerous reactions.
Inner truth and inner peace are called for. Who will be the first to forgive?

In the horoscope of this new moon is great volatility and instability. The world is in shock and catalystic change. Few are willing to compromise. Fewer still can envision how to heal these rifts and minimize the repercussions. It is more important to share what one has with those who need, than to hoard or protect things for oneself!

In this dark and volatile time it becomes very important to light up the darkness. The power of prayer and of chanting can revitalize the heart and clearly direct the mind. A beautiful song can heal or restore the soul. Can you maintain an inner positivity and avoid empowering the negativity without. Can you meet force with peace? Do you understand the limitations of your own life? Can you avoid following the negative gossip about others?
Food, water and good will can restore peace. Chanting can help us to maintain a positive heartfelt stance in the face of negative information. If action is required, it would be useful to consider how to make things more peaceful? How do we help rather than hurt? Very little good comes from anger, rage and impulse.
By chanting and taking time to meditate or pray on this new moon, perhaps, we can restore some peace in our immediate circle and associations. Perhaps also this can spread around the neighbourhood and even the world.
