The I Ching hexagram that the New Moon is happening in is: Retreat

33. RETREAT

ABOVE AND BELOW:
Heaven above, the mountain below.
Light above, stillness below.
Strength without, patience within.
Firm in stillness
A sage waits for a vision.

THE IMAGE:
Light on the mountain.
At the summit,
One observes
A sage on the mountain,
Who sees what others cannot.
A breakthrough in solitude.
One cannot stay here forever.
The way home becomes apparent.
Rest before you start.

THE JUDGEMENT:
One pauses
In the hustle and bustle of life.
One feels a need for inner tranquility and peace.
One breathes deeply
And takes a calm approach to time demands.
In the world one is active everywhere.
At home one rests and contemplates.
Understanding will not come from action.

FAMILY RELATIONSHIP:
The third son to the father.
The third son is slow to act. The father acts quickly.
The third son measures the effect before he speaks.
The father speaks freely.
The third son rests content. The father will force issues.
The third son will not respond quickly to his father.
He is uncertain of his capacity.
The father would like to see more confidence.
The third son will wait for his father’s attention.
The father is not always sensitive and can be aloof.
The third son is patient.
He will ask before he acts,
Or wait to be told what to do.

ZODIAC CONSIDERATIONS
Great changes. Darkness ascends.
If you want something, don’t just sit there
And wait for someone to get it for you.
Get it yourself.
One actively pursues what one values
Even if one must spend some time alone in the process.
If the way before one is blocked
One must retreat and wait for a more agreeable time.
Wait for the vision, and then wait no longer.
If one can see it, one can do it.

THE LINES

Nine in the fifth place: (04° - 05° Libra)
One holds firm to one’s resolve
And exercises restraint.
One meets one’s thoughts,
But does not compromise.
One’s will power and social conscience is strengthened.
A way is opening.

The fifth place: 04° - 05° Libra:  54. The Marrying Maiden
         There are inner worries.
         One laughs out loud.
         No one hears.
         Good fortune.

                  Nine in the fifth place:
                  Honourable and strong.
                  One takes care of responsibilities.
                  Time is not wasted.
                  Good fortune.

This is the time of year where the amount of darkness becomes greater than the amount of daylight, when independent freedoms must retreat and surrender to the increasing responsibilities of the fall and coming winter. Focus changes from the individual to the group. Participation is a significant factor of survival. It is harvest time! one must reap whatever there is and make the most of it, as work done now will secure resources for the winter when nothing grows and life is difficult.
This marks the retreat of strong wills and egos, in favour of team work and consideration of others.
At the summer and winter solstices the change of light into darkness or vice verse is about 6 minutes a day. At the equinoxes the rate of change is 24 minutes a day. So the rate of increasing darkness becomes very noticeable to all. With it comes a wariness about what is ahead for the winter months and what is demanded of us now.

This is a Libra Full Moon, ruled by Venus the planet of love and beauty. Venus rules the development of values and true self worth. In Libra this implies the value of sharing what one has with others. If you don’t share, it means nothing to anyone!

This New Moon in Libra represents the seed impulse of sharing. Without sharing there is no peace! Can you find a worthy balance between what you are prepared to share and what you are not? Is there anything that you are not prepared to share? Can you watch others do without and do nothing? Even a smile in the midst of difficulties can have a tremendous healing effect. Can you whistle while you work? What have you got to lose by showing appreciation to others?

The horoscope of this Libra New Moon is afflicted and there is much contradiction and instability associated to it. We will see it as two forces at work. One will be harsh, unsympathetic and selfish. The other will be hard working, considerate and expressive. The challenge here is to accentuate the positive or at least to avoid increasing the worries and anxieties of others. Even if there are fears that surface, we cannot succumb and live our lives in fear. ‘
Meditation, prayer and chanting on this full moon can affirm the spirit of sensitivity and openness. It can help one to transcend and let go of worries and fears. This can be done alone, but it is a good time to gather together and share inner feelings of peace on earth and good will towards man.
